SEMARANG (09/11) – In carrying out learning in universities that carry the vision of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education (Education, Research and Community Service), it will certainly lead students to participate in programmes or activities that support this vision. One of them is Field Work Practices or what we usually call Internships. The implementation of internships is different in each department, some can be taken in semester 5, and some can be taken in semester 7 and above. Internship activities can be carried out in government agencies, the private sector, and ministries that collaborate with the Merdeka Campus programme.

Public Administration Students with Head of Section and Staff of Organisation Section of Semarang City Regional Secretariat

One of the internship students from the 2019 Public Administration department, Maharani Intan Az Zahra (20), chose an internship location in a government agency, namely in the Organisation section of the Semarang City Regional Secretariat. The Organisation Section has the task of planning, coordinating, fostering, supervising and controlling as well as evaluating the tasks of Regional Apparatus Institutions and Administration, Public Services, and Regional Apparatus Empowerment. The internship activity was carried out for 30 working days, which began on September 1 to October 12, 2022. One of the tasks given by the agency during the internship was the implementation of the Community Satisfaction Survey (SKM) at the Population and Civil Registration Office. This was done because of the increasing demands of the community for the quality of public services, realising Good Governance (accountability, transparency, rule of law), assessing the quality of public services through the Community Satisfaction Index (IKM), and evaluating and improving the quality of public services.

Implementation of a Community Satisfaction Survey at the Population and Civil Registration Office

Based on a survey of 50 respondents, the Population and Civil Registration Office of Semarang City received an IKM score of 77.11, which is classified as B (Good) quality. However, it needs to be evaluated and reviewed to improve the quality of public services in the Regional Apparatus Organisation (OPD). In the implementation of the public satisfaction survey conducted at the Population and Civil Registration Office of Semarang City, several problems were found in providing services to the community, such as the lack of fast service time, the lack of friendly and polite officers when providing services, and the inadequate facilities and infrastructure at the Population and Civil Registration Office. As a form of supervision and control as well as improving the quality of public services, the Organisation section took action by gathering every OPD that had been surveyed, including the Population and Civil Registration Office to discuss the results of the Community Satisfaction Survey (SKM). The search for problem-solving to improve public services is also carried out in order to create excellent public services and satisfy the community.

This task adds to the knowledge and experience of students during internships regarding the real conditions of the implementation of public services today. In addition, it is also a provision for students in carrying out final project research in order to complete the study and bachelor’s degree.
