On Saturday, August 3, 2024, Nur Meyranti, a student from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Public Administration Program, as a member of Team II of the Community Service Program (KKN) at Diponegoro University (UNDIP), organized a disaster management workshop at Sekolah Dasar Negeri (SDN) 01 Kendel. The event aimed to provide students with an understanding of disaster mitigation, hoping that they would be more prepared to face various potential disasters in their environment.
The event began with an explanation of the importance of understanding disaster management from an early age. Then, the student presented material on various types of natural disasters, such as earthquakes, floods, and landslides. This explanation included mitigation steps that could be taken to reduce the risk and impact of these disasters.
To make the workshop more engaging and easier for the students to understand, Nur Meyranti also created and distributed leaflets containing essential information about disaster management. The leaflets were designed with attractive images and simple language so that elementary school students could easily understand them. The material in the leaflet included practical tips on what to do before, during, and after a disaster occurs.
In addition to providing material, the workshop also included a quiz game related to disaster management. The game was not only aimed at testing the students’ understanding of the material but also at adding excitement and enthusiasm to the activity. The students appeared very enthusiastic and actively participated in the game, further reinforcing their understanding of disaster mitigation.
This activity, which combined educational material and interactive games, is expected to contribute to shaping a generation that is better prepared to face disasters, as well as providing long-term benefits in enhancing their preparedness and resilience in future emergency situations.
