Pudakpayung, (23/04). Safari Kurma is a program organized by the Public Administration Student Association and facilitated by the Social Community Department. This annual event takes place every Ramadan and is aimed at demonstrating compassion and goodwill through social service activities and communal breaking of the fast with orphanage children on the first day, followed by distributing iftar meals to the community on the second day.

The purpose of Safari Kurma is to strengthen bonds, especially between the Public Administration Student Association and the orphanage children, enhance piety and social awareness, and motivate the orphanage children to keep learning and instill values of kindness. For us, it is also a moment to feel warmth and togetherness. Interesting, right? Curious about the activities?

In 2024, Safari Kurma was held on March 23-24. On the first day, we visited the Manaarul Mabrur Orphanage located at Jl. Shirotol Mustaqim No.1 Pudakpayung, Banyumanik District, Semarang City. The event started with an opening, a recitation of the Holy Qur’an, welcoming remarks, ice-breaking activities, and an Islamic quiz. The quiz included identifying short surahs, guessing the name of angels, and mention the pillars of Islam. The children were very enthusiastic to answer. Of course, there were useful prizes for those who bravely and correctly answered.

While waiting for the time to break the fast, there were fun games like a rubber band relay race. The orphanage children were divided into several groups and worked together to complete the relay. Curious about the excitement? Let’s see the picture beside it.

As maghrib time approached, the activities continued with prayers, a short sermon, breaking the fast together, maghrib prayer, and continued with the handover of donations. The donations included necessities and some money. The day ended with a group photo and closing.

All the organizers and orphanage children were very happy and grateful for the successful completion of the first day’s activities. What do you think about the fun of the first day of Safari Kurma? Let’s move on to the second day, which was just as exciting.

On the second day, 40 iftar meal boxes were distributed to the community around Jl. Raya Sendangmulyo, Meteseh, Tembalang District, Semarang City. The Meteseh community was very enthusiastic and felt helped by this iftar distribution. The hope is that Safari Kurma becomes not just a work program of the student association but also a realization of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, namely community service. In the future, it is hoped that community service activities like this will continue as initially intended and provide significant benefits not only within the Public Administration Student Association but also for the wider community.
