“I am deeply honored to collaborate with the Public Governance Research Group of Universitas Diponegoro. This community engagement activity demonstrates that cross-country collaboration can enrich our perspectives in addressing the challenges of waste management in universities.”Prof. Alex Brillantes Jr., Ph.D.

Through a community development approach, the program targeted improvements in household waste management literacy, preparation of simple SOPs for environmental cadres, simulation of waste bank workflow, and mapping of actor roles (neighborhood units, schools, MSMEs, and local government). This initiative aligns with UNDIP’s commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

Expected impacts include the establishment of community-level environmental change agents capable of implementing waste sorting and reduction at the source, strengthening campus–community–local government partnership networks for sustainable waste management models, and the development of concise guidelines (SOPs) and educational materials that can be replicated by schools, villages, or community groups.

Through the Department of Public Administration, UNDIP continues to promote cross-disciplinary and cross-generational collaboration to strengthen environmental governance and accelerate circular economy practices at the grassroots level.
