FISIP Undip Holds FGD in Tegal Regency: Encouraging Regional Bureaucratic Reform through Integrated Data Collection of MSMEs

Tegal Regency, October 1, 2025 – The Bureaucratic Reform Academic Expertise Cluster of the Department of Public Administration, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Diponegoro, organized a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) as part of the “Regional Bureaucratic Reform through a Collaborative Approach: Integrating Academic Research and Industry Practice to Strengthen Tourism and MSMEs in Tegal Regency” program.

This event, held at the Bappedalitbang Meeting Room in Tegal Regency, was attended by various stakeholders, including the Tegal Regency Bappedalitbang (Regional Development Planning, Research, and Development Agency), the Department of Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises and Trade, and the Department of Youth, Sports, and Tourism of Tegal Regency.

The forum created a collaborative space for various parties to strengthen the MSME data collection system, making it more accurate, integrated, and valuable for supporting the formulation of local policies in the future.

During the presentation session, Mr. Muhammad Faried Wajdy, S.Sos., M.Si., Head of Bappedalitbang for Tegal Regency, delivered material on the condition of MSMEs in Tegal Regency, covering challenges in data collection as well as opportunities for developing this sector in the future. Meanwhile, the Bureaucratic Reform KBK team emphasized that up-to-date and integrated MSME data collection is essential for supporting development planning, empowering business actors, and enhancing the region’s competitiveness.

The FGD discussion addressed several key issues, ranging from a portrayal of MSMEs in Tegal Regency, the regulatory foundations for data collection, the methods used so far, stakeholder roles, and mechanisms for monitoring and evaluating data sustainability.

This activity also forms part of the Business and Industrial World Collaboration (DUDI) scheme in Diponegoro University’s World Class University Program, which aims to integrate academic research with practical fieldwork. Through this program, Undip strives to present applicable scientific studies as a basis for local public policy.

Dr. Dra. Dyah Lituhayu, M.Si., Head of the Bureaucratic Reform KBK, stated that this activity is expected to produce strategic recommendations in the form of an academic manuscript and policy brief that can be used by the Tegal Regency Government in developing data-driven policies. “Integrated MSME data collection is not only important for mapping economic potential, but also serves as a foundation for the sustainability of regional development,” she stressed.

Through this FGD, Undip, together with the local government and other stakeholders, is committed to building a collaborative ecosystem that supports MSME empowerment while strengthening local governance capacity.
