Semarang, September 8, 2025 – The Academic Expertise Cluster, Department of Public Administration, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Universitas Diponegoro, successfully organized a Visiting Professor program in collaboration with Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM). The event was held online under the theme “Reinventing Government to Achieve Sustainable Development.”
The program was officially opened by Dr. Drs. Teguh Yuwono, M.Pol.Admin, Dean of FISIP UNDIP, who highlighted the importance of adaptive and sustainability oriented governance reform. The session was warmly guided by MC Jamilah Cahyaning Qolbu, a Public Administration student of FISIP UNDIP, while the discussion was moderated by Johan Bhimo Sukoco, S.Sos, M.Si.
As the keynote speaker, Prof. Dr. Halimah binti Abdul Manaf (Universiti Utara Malaysia) explained that the concept of Reinventing Government emerged as a response to the limitations of traditional bureaucracy by emphasizing efficiency, decentralization, results orientation, and citizen participation. She linked Osborne & Gaebler’s ten core principles to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ranging from decentralization that supports sustainable cities (SDG 11) to anticipatory governance relevant to climate action (SDG 13).
The material was further enriched through reflections from the discussants of the Development Administration research cluster. Prof. Dr. Sri Suwitri, M.Si. highlighted the importance of strengthening local bureaucratic capacity and cross-actor collaboration to realize inclusive governance. Titik Djumiarti, M.Si. and Renata Jati Nirmala, S.IAN., MPA. emphasized the urgency of bureaucracy reform through digitalization of public services while reminding of the challenges of digital access and literacy gaps in the regions. Meanwhile, Teuku Afrizal, Ph.D. underscored the importance of regulation and transparency in public-private partnerships (PPP), ensuring that such collaborations truly support sustainability rather than being merely profit-oriented.
The discussion was highly interactive, with critical insights from faculty members and active participation from students across various universities, including Universitas Sriwijaya and Universitas Negeri Surabaya. This inter-university enthusiasm reflected the shared national concern on governance reform and sustainable development.
This Visiting Professor program was designed to broaden the academic community’s perspectives, strengthen global networks, and enhance Universitas Diponegoro’s international reputation as a World Class University. Through cross-national academic collaboration, FISIP UNDIP reaffirms its role in shaping governance discourse relevant to today’s global challenges.
